Dental veneers are an excellent way to cover up imperfections in your teeth, such as cracks, discoloration or cavities.
When done well, veneers can instantly change the quality of your smile and are therefore often used in smile transformation processes.
However, many patients in their quest to achieve the perfect smile often end up with unnatural looking veneers. As with any other procedure in aesthetic dentistry, veneers should not only be performed by a dentist with a good eye, but also with a realistic expectation of what looks good.
How do I choose natural looking veneers?
There are a few factors to consider when looking at coatings;
Teeth Color
An important thing to keep in mind when designing dental veneers is color. Realistically speaking, the latter is not the most ideal, as the color of your veneers should match your natural teeth as well as the whites of your eyes and skin tone. Also, remember that natural teeth do not have a single color, dentin and enamel change with age and wear. The dentin of young teeth is lighter, while the margins of older teeth are darker and opaque. Remember that the aim of aesthetic dentistry is to offer a smile that is both pleasant and natural; So how your teeth relate to the rest of your face is very important.
Size and Shape of Teeth
The size and shape of dental veneers should complement your face and even your body. For example, a petite female will most likely not have the same tooth shape as a larger male. You also want to make sure that your palate is not inverted when smiling. This means that the edges of your teeth should follow your lower lip line; they should bend upwards, not backwards, following the lower lip. That way, you actually look like you’re smiling rather than frowning.
Face shape
Most faces fall into four categories : heart, square, oval, and round. All ages are naturally balanced as the most suitable tooth shape and size.
Heart Shape: Heart-shaped faces look better with rounder and shorter coats.
Oval Shape: Oval shaped faces work better with squarer overlays. This helps to add fullness to the face.
Round Shaped: Round faces look better with longer and more defined coats.
Square Shaped: Since square-shaped faces have more defined jaw lines, it works better with rounded overlays to soften features.
How Do We Make Dental Veneers Look Natural?
In dental designs, we apply the following processes to ensure you are satisfied with your veneers.
Digital Scan
Digital scans allow us to understand your dental condition and create a virtual framework of what your future smile will look like. Scans will give us an idea of the size, volume and shape of your teeth. We also use the smile design tool to help us with your smile design.
Preparation of Coatings in the Laboratory
We create all of our coatings in an in-house laboratory to ensure full quality control. They are also ground from a single block of feldspar using a precision grinding strategy to reduce cracks and micro-fractures. To bring your veneers to life, our dedicated dental lab technician offers textures and colors to make veneers look as natural as possible.
Remember that it’s vital that we test your smile first to make sure your veeners are right for you. Therefore, we will make a temporary set of skins or smile prototypes for you and have you wear them for about a week. If you are satisfied, we will continue to paste your permanent porcelain veneers.
