While veneers cover most of the surface of your tooth, they do not cover the entire tooth. The small portions of your natural tooth at and below the gumline are exposed to the contents of your mouth, including bacteria. Oral bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gum disease will not affect your actual veneers, but they can still affect your natural teeth and gum tissue. When bacteria build up between your teeth and along and under your gumline, these bacteria can cause bad breath. Even a veneered tooth is vulnerable to tooth decay if oral bacteria and food particles are allowed to build up in your mouth. As tooth decay progresses, it contributes to a wide variety of symptoms: sensitive teeth, cavities, a bad taste in your mouth, and bad breath.<\/p>\n Bad odors that appear to come from your veneers or the teeth and gums around your veneers are unfortunately common because tooth decay, gum disease and poor oral hygiene are also common. While most professionally installed veneers will fit properly, an improper coat can also contribute to bad breath in your mouth.
